This morning, another Oil Rig owned by Mariner Energy, LLC exploded off the coast of Louisiana just 80 miles from Vermillion Bay. 13 crew members were on board the rig at the time but all are accounted for. One has suffered injuries from the explosion.
The Coast Guard has dispatched nine helicopters, two planes and four Coast Guard Cutters to the scene.
All of the crew members have been safely rescued and are aboard a commercial vessel. The Coast Guard is on scene and determining what actions will need to follow.
There is no word yet whether or not there is any oil or gas leaking into the water as a result of the explosion. It is known that the rig was not producing oil or gas at the time of the explosion.
