Confusion and debate surrounded the Macondo Well’s status the day of the explosion on board the Deepwater Horizon that killed 11 crew members. In this article by the Wall Street Journal it notes that many of the key managers on-board the Deepwater Horizon were out of contact or engaged in ceremonial duties during the confusion amongst the drilling crew.
In addition to this, the article also outlines the unorthodox measures BP and Transocean implemented in order to test the integrety of the well by removing drilling mud from the casings and replacing it with sea water.
